Christy Bennett’s Fumée is a Chicago-based jazz ensemble that blends European and American jazz styles with a playful nod to the Gypsy jazz genre popularized by guitarist Django Reinhardt. The group performs in the traditional “drum-less” style utilizing string instruments in the rhythm section: none other than acclaimed mandolin player Don Stiernberg and renowned accordion player, Don Stille. Crowned with leader Christy Bennett’s masterful and lyrical vocals, the result is a chic, charming, and contemporary fusion that not only preserves the original tradition but expands on it in an exceptionally entertaining and enjoyable way.
