Nash Stineman, from Lincolnshire, IL is a 4 year old and suffers form an ultra-rare neuromuscular disease called SMARD. He is the only person in IL ever diagnosed. Nash inherited a bad copy of his IGHMBP2 gene from both parents and there are no available treatments or cures for this rare form of Spinal Muscular Atrophy. It has been described as ALS in infants and is typically fatal in infancy.
SHS Alumni Brittany Stineman 03′ and Bobby Stineman 01′ started a non-profit called smashSMARD in a desperate attempt to fund life-saving gene therapy research! They have participated with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and this therapy should be available in 2020, if funding goals are met. Please help us
