Best known for their iconic #1 hit “Amie,” Top 10 hits “Two Lane Highway,” “Let Me Love You Tonight,” “I’ll Fix Your Flat Tire Merle” and “Early Mornin’ Riser,” along with their classic Norman Rockwell inspired cowboy album covers, Pure Prairie League bridged the gap between country and rock. Original members Mike Reilly (bass, vocals) and John David Call (pedal steel) are joined by Donnie Clark (guitar, vocals), Randy Harper (keyboards, vocals) and Scott Thompson (drums, vocals).
County rockers Pure Prairie League took their name from an obscure 19th century Temperance Union mentioned in the 1939 film, “Dodge City.” But this distinctly American band, with its’ 50 year career and long line of top hits, escaped obscurity long ago. Although a fan favorite right out of the gate, it took a number of years before Pure Prairie League had their first hit. They couldn’t have picked a better way to start, and “AMIEE” not only put Pure Prairie League on the map, but went on to become perhaps the most well known and beloved country rock song of all time.
Now in their fifth decade, Pure Prairie League continues to lead the way for the new generation of Country/Rockers such as Keith Urban, Nickel Creek, Wilco, Counting Crows and so many others that cite them as major influences in their careers.
As crisp and clean as spring water and as comfortable as a well-worn cowboy shirt, Pure Prairie League still brings it all back home.
