Woodstock, Illinois - Home of Annual Groundhog Days
Groundhog Days Festival
This quirky annual festival celebrates the iconic filming locations of the cult classic Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray.
In 1992, Woodstock, Illinois, was chosen as the backdrop for the film, and ever since, thousands of visitors from around the world have descended upon the historic Woodstock Downtown Square for the annual Prognostication. There, they gather to hear the weather forecast from Woodstock Willie, the town’s resident groundhog. The “Groundhog Days” Festival offers a variety of themed activities, including movie scene walking tours, trivia, bingo, screenings, pub crawls, and much more!
Prognostication
Will he see his shadow or won’t he? Will we have 6 more weeks of winter, or is spring right around the corner? Gather in the Park in the Square for Woodstock Willie’s Prognostication on February 2. Come for all the festivities with our own Groundhog Day polka band. And don't forget your booties ‘cuz it’s cold out there.
Guided Film Site Walking Tour
Dress warmly and join us at the Opera House for a fun and informative tour of the iconic “Groundhog Day” filming locations. The tour will conclude at the B&B where Bill Murray’s character woke up each morning.
'Drink to World Peace' Toast
Join in a festive movie-themed toast at the bar where Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell toasted to world peace! Raise your glass in honor of the moment, and take home a souvenir shot glass to remember the fun.
Groundhog Day Movie Showings
Refresh on your movie references at a variety of Groundhog Day movie showings at Classic Cinemas - Woodstock, equipped with brand new heated recliner seats!
Groundhog Day Breakfast and Dinner-Dance
No festival is complete without great food! Join us for the Groundhog Day Dinner Dance at the Woodstock Moose, featuring live music by Broken Arrow. Or, after the Prognostication, enjoy a bite at participating local spots that are honoring the film with special menus.
Groundhog Day Pub Crawl
