Independence Health & Therapy is McHenry County’s leading wellness center, providing adult day health and memory care programs; behavioral health services; and physical, occupational and speech therapy for all ages. Our programs are centered around improving lives through care, education, and advocacy.
Independence Health & Therapy programs include:
• Adult Day Health and Memory Care, a community-based traditional day program. It offers social services, activities, peer support and individual care, while also following a medical model, utilizing skilled services from nurses, therapists, and others. IHT is the county’s only provider of a dementia-specific program, which also includes caregiver education and support groups.
• Behavioral Health services that care for those who are at risk of clinical depression, anxiety, and higher physical health needs. Our multidisciplinary team includes licensed clinical social workers, community support specialists and a geriatric psychiatrist.
• Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, which serves all ages and conditions. More than 60% of clients are children under the age of 13, with a myriad of different conditions and diagnoses, such as cerebral palsy, autism, and developmental and physical delays. Therapy programs also serve adult and senior clients for a wide range of conditions such as acquired disabilities, sports injuries and physical impairments associated with the aging process.
Independence Health & Therapy is a 501(c)(3) organization and relies on generous support from both private and public funders. Approximately 75% of all clients are classified as low income; Independence Health and Therapy accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and clients who are uninsured, offering scholarships or a sliding fee scale for care.
